Psalm 119:1-2
“How blessed are those whose way is blameless, Who walk in the law of the LORD. How blessed are those who observe His testimonies, Who seek Him with all their heart.” We could sum it up this way, “Don’t Compromise”. According to Merriam-Webster, compromise is to “make something intermediate between or blending qualities of two different things;” also, “to make a shameful or disreputable concession”. That is the same thing Christians do when engaging in “Halloween”, but to make things a little less evil at church, we call it “trunk or treat”, instead of “trick or treat”. No matter what name you give it, you compromise what God says with what the world says. Read todays verses again, and take note of the first two words in each sentence, “How blessed”. Isaiah put it this way, “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness (Isaiah 5:20). The word “woe” is a lamenting voice because what is about to happen is not good. Think of it as the word you would use to stop a horse, the voice is higher and it means “STOP”! I’m not just talking Halloween, but every area of your life that would be a disreputable witness to those who know you, and God knows you. “The fear of the Lord is to hate evil” (Proverbs 8:13) and, “The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, To turn one away from the snares of death” (Proverbs 14:27) (Bold mine). Wisdom comes from above; compromise comes from the flesh. Are you walking blameless, seeking the Lord with all your heart, or compromising?
