Deuteronomy 32:35a

            “Vengeance is Mine, and recompense”. This is one of those verses we would do well to heed before we decide to take revenge. It’s not just that you are not to take revenge, Jesus said, “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you” (Matthew 5:44), He gives the reason in the next verse, “that you may be sons of your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:45). There is another word here that most don’t remember when quoting this verse, “recompense”, which means to “make good, or make restitution”. When you hear someone say the battle belongs to the Lord, this is what they are talking about. Without all the facts that God has, you can make a bad judgment call and actually become the bad guy in whatever you are dealing with. Remember all of the verse: “Vengeance is mine, and recompense”. Both verses (Matthew 5:44 and Deuteronomy 32:35a) can work together. Are you loving your enemy and leaving the vengeance to God?
