John 1:8

“He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.” Jesus is the True Light, and He told us that we are the light of the world (Matthew 5:14). There is in every man and woman that has been, or will be, born into the world a place in their heart for light. While we have life (existence), we don’t have life (eternal). The word “he” in our text today was talking about John, not Jesus, we can use it to refer to us. We also were called to bear witness of the True Light, Jesus. When Jesus called us the light of the world, He was referring to us as being witnesses just as John was. Without words, our life is a light on display for all to see, and it should shine in such a way that “they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). Jesus is the LIGHT and LIFE that people need, and we were sent to bear witness to that Light so those looking on and listening can receive TRUE LIFE that the Light brings.
