Exodus 3:7
“And the Lord said: “I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.” I would like to start by reminding us that Egypt is a picture of the world. Just as Eve was deceived in the Garden of Eden and fed her husband the lie. We, too, have been deceived, that success, fame, fortune, fancy cars and mansions are what matters. Even as Christians we gravitate towards what the world offers, but what we need to do is help the people see what the Creator of the World has to offer. James warns us, “Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God” (James 4:4). We are told to set our minds on things above, not on earthly things (Colossians 3:2). God knows the sorrows those things bring. The taskmasters of credit are cruel as we strive to have those things. The Lord hears our cries and He never intended that for us. Because of the wickedness of man, God was going to destroy everything He made, “but Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God” (Genesis 6:8&9b) (authors paraphrase and Italics). It’s up to us to turn our hearts and minds back to the things of God and get back to walking with Him again.
