Ephesians 5:22
“Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.” It’s always the little words that have so much to do with these verses. In verse 25 we see,” Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her” (Italics mine) and in our verse today ”as to” the Lord. To many people focus on the words “love”, and “submit”, when these little words tie the whole thing together. When the husband loves the wife, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, this word submit would not be intimidating, but an honor for the wife. Christ is the Head of the church, husbands are the head of the wife and she should submit to him, “that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives…. Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel—rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands, as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are if you do good and are not afraid with any terror (1 Peter 3:2a & 3-6). Wives, notice that it’s the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. Wives, do you submit to your own husband “as to the Lord”? (Italics mine)
