Joshua 4:24

“that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty, that you may fear the Lord your God forever.” After the Israelites crossed the Jordan River to Jericho, they set up twelve stones, one for each tribe, as a reminder of what God had done for them. The verse for today is how they were to tell their children in generations to come just how the mighty hand of God stopped the waters of the Red Sea for the parents and how it stopped the Jordan for the children. The hearts of those in Jericho melted; the Gibeonites were so afraid they disguised themselves as travelers from a distant land. It is my belief that over the last two thousand years, we lost our proper fear or reverence for the Lord our God in understanding how mighty His hand is. Our verse tells us that it isn’t just for the Israelites, but “That ALL the peoples of the earth may know the hand of the Lord is mighty”. When you tell your children and others what God has done, show some excitement and enthusiasm. These aren’t just stories for Sunday school children, they are facts for us to learn to respect and have reverence for our Holy God that we may fear Him FOREVER!
