John 15:7

       “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.” This is not a name-it-and-claim-it verse that some have made it out to be. Someone who doesn’t read or study the Scriptures to understand what it actually means, may use it that way. There are three keys to this verse for you to have your desire be done for you. The first is so obvious: you have to be abiding in Jesus. You have a Bible and go to church; that’s great. Do you spend time in the Bible outside of church? You can have a Bible, but if you’re not in it, you’re not in Jesus, and His words are not in you. His words are actions that must be continued outside of church services. As you mature in your walk, you will understand scripture better and act upon it without hesitation. Now we come to the part of the verse everyone looks at, asking what you desire and having it done for you. When you abide in Jesus, and His Words are abiding in you, you will know what to ask for in accordance with the Word, and Jesus, for the edification and illumination of others, and not selfish desires to spend it on your pleasure (James 4:3). It will be done for you because it will glorify God. You will pray as Jesus did, “not my will, but Your will be done”.
