\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cIt is written,\u00a0\u2018Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.\u2019<\/em>\u201d I always instruct people that when they see the words \u201cit is written\u201d to search and find where it is written. In this case, Jesus was quoting Deut. 8:3 (see Deuteronomy 8:1-3). I would like to point out here that Jesus didn\u2019t say the Bible is a smorgasbord where we choose what we like and skip what doesn\u2019t appeal to our appetite, yet that\u2019s the way some read the Bible if they read it at all. He said, \u201cevery word that proceeds from the mouth of God\u201d. Proverbs 30:5 tells us, \u201cEvery word of God\u00a0is<\/em> pure;\u201d With that in mind, let\u2019s see the pure word of God and how it applies for us to live. \u201cIn the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God\u201d (John 1:1), \u201cAnd the Word became flesh and dwelt among us\u201d (John 1:14a). Jesus is God come in the flesh and dwelt among us, lived a humble life, died the agonizing death we should die, rose from the grave 3 days later according to Scripture, and all who receive Him He gave the right to become children of God to those who believe in His name (John 1:12). You can survive on bread alone, you cannot live on bread alone you need the pure Word of God which will bring you to, and keep you in, eternal life. Are you just feeding your body, or are you feeding your soul with every word that proceeds from the mouth of God?
