Psalm 51:11

“Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.” We need to understand the importance of the Holy Spirit in our lives. We see by the first part of the verse today, as David confesses his sin with Bathsheba and his part in the death of her husband Uriah (2 Samuel 11), that God will not keep us close when we deliberately sin. Our sin pushes us away from God altogether. We need the Holy Spirit to keep us close to God. He even warns us before we sin and then leaves the decision up to us. According to the promise by Jesus, when “the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you” (John 14:26), which are all the things we need to live holy lives. We need Him in our lives. We cannot continue to grow in Christ or our Walk as Christians without the Holy Spirit in us. Sin pushes us away from God but can also lead to the Holy Spirit being taken from us. The best thing we can do isn’t confess our sin, it’s staying close to God and avoiding sin altogether.
