1 Peter 1:16

“because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.” If you are a parent, you care what becomes of your children! Our Father cares very much how we live. How we live our lives tells God how much we love Him. We are told in James 1:22 “be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” This isn’t a verse telling us to be busy doing things, but telling us to live with Him in us and through us. Have you ever asked Him to give you the Holy Spirit? He tells us “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” (Luke 11:13). Do you live with the Holy Spirit guiding your life? It is possible to do, James 1:21 tells us to, “lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls”, verse 27 “and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.” (Ephesians 5:1) “Therefore be imitators of God as dear children”. Our Father is glorified by our being holy like He is Holy. Why is this important for us to obey? The first four words in today’s verse explain it all, “because it is written”! God is Holy, His Word is Holy and our response should be holy as well!
