2 Corinthians 9:8
“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.” Before we begin with this verse, I would like to quote verse 7, “let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. In keeping things in context, we can keep ourselves safe from using today’s verse for greedy gain. Some use this verse to get people to give telling them they will prosper. As we look at today’s verse let’s keep in mind what Jesus said in Matthew 6:24, “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” Now, with that all in mind let’s dig into today’s verse. First is “And God is able. He is able to make something from nothing. He is able to make more out of little. You don’t have to be rich to help others and be blessed. Just as God is able to make all grace abound toward you, He is able to give you what you need for every good work. When you bless others, you get blessed. The more you bless others the more God blesses you to continue to bless others. If you do it so God will bless you so you can use it on yourself, you’ll lose the blessing. If you do it grudgingly your blessing won’t be worth anything. God gives abundance for “every good work”. When you do the good work for His Glory, you get the blessing of abundance for that work which you are doing. Are you giving to get, or getting to give?
