John 8:36
“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” Why are so many Christians struggling with sin? Is it possible we don’t believe we really have been freed from them? First and foremost, we must believe by faith what Scripture tells us about it. Reading is not enough, we need to take the time to study scripture and it will prove to us how the Son set us free, and we can live in that freedom. The first thing we will see is the Love of the Father. John 3:16 tells us “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”. God’s love is so intense for us that He not only used His blood to cover and cleanse us from our sins, He also used it to pay the ransom so He could have us for Himself, because “it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul” (Leviticus 17:11) and brings us back into relationship with Him. This brings us to the second point, the Death of the Son, “Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12:2). If the Son couldn’t set us free from our life of sin, He wouldn’t have had joy to go to the Cross. Our being reconciled back to the Father, and becoming part of His family was the joy set before Him and the blood He shed was Holy Blood. “For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. “Present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace” (Romans 6:13b-14). And lastly, we also see the Holy Spirit and one of the Fruits of the Spirit is Self-control. We all know the small gentle voice of the Holy Spirit in us, and before we sin He prompts us not to do what we are about to do. We can either listen to Him or push Him out of the way and do what we want. To sin or not to sin, that is the question, the choice is yours and it is based upon your fear of our Holy God, your allegiance to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and your obedience to the Holy Spirit in you. The Son set you free so, YOU ARE FREE!
