1 Corinthians 6:19a

“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you?” Yes, you read that correctly, your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. What else is in your temple that may be taking the place of the Holy Spirit? The filling of the Holy Spirit is a daily filling, it’s not, as some have taught, like a gas tank that you go and fill up once or twice a week at church, but a constant filling. In Nehemiah 13:7-8 we read, “I came to Jerusalem and discovered the evil that Eliashib had done for Tobiah, in preparing a room for him in the courts of the house of God. And it grieved me bitterly; therefore, I threw all the household goods of Tobiah out of the room.” If we’re not careful in taking care of the temple, evil will creep in little by little, into the courts of the house of God, and just as the body without the Spirit is dead (James 2:26a), when the temple is empty it’s nothing more than a fancy tomb filled with dead man’s bones. But there is good instruction here for us, in verse 9, “Then I commanded them to cleanse the rooms; and I brought back into them the articles of the house of God, with the grain offering and the frankincense.” We need to clean out the temple, cleanse it, and put the things of God back in it Then we can invite the Holy Spirit to come back and take His rightful place in the temple every day until the glory of the Lord fills the temple. The only difference between a temple and a tomb is what’s inside.
