2 Corinthians 5:17b

“old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” What “old things” was Paul talking about? First would be the old life, a life lived in and for pleasure, self-centered and selfish. The words “passed away” mean to “neglect”, which is what we should do with our old life. The “Old Covenant” was the law, or the Ten Commandments, which no man could fulfill for salvation. What else should have changed? Your thought life for one. We are told to, “set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth” (Colossians 3:2), “and do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:2). Your thoughts should now be upward not inward, because you are being transformed from the inside out, not from the outside in. “All things become new”, your worship to God should now be new and vibrant, and not worship to yourself or the world. Your words should not be degrading but edifying, and your walk should no longer be phony and in the dark when you’re alone, but in truth, and shining a bright light for all to see. Have all these things become new since you confessed Jesus as Lord of your life?
