John 15:5

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” We are all called to bear fruit as followers of Jesus. How much fruit and whether that fruit is good or bad depends upon our time spent with Jesus. What is the difference between good and bad fruit? Good fruit is doing the will of God, making disciples of Jesus, being a doer of the Word, and not just hearing it in church. Bad fruit is making converts of the church you attend, or becoming a hearer only. The important thing is first to abide (continue, dwell, endure, be present, remain, stand, tarry) in Him. Not being in the Word is the same as not being in the vine. You can’t know the will of God to do the will of God if you are not connected to God through the Word. John 1:1 tells us, “the Word was God”. If you’re not in Word daily, you’re not abiding in the vine and are in danger of becoming a fruitless branch that’s drying up. Going to church can give a little water to the branch, and even dead branches still get water; they just don’t produce any fruit. Are you in the Word and abiding in the Vine and bearing good fruit?
