Romans 5:15b             “by the one man’s offense many died”. For us to get wiser, we need to heed the warnings in Scripture. Here is a good one to heed. Throughout Scripture, we see how one man’s sin cost others dearly. Numbers 16 we see the story of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram contending against Moses. The Lord was going to destroy the whole congregation, but Moses and Aaron fell on their faces and begged God not to destroy the whole congregation, so the Lord told them to have everybody get away from those 3. In verse 27 we see them standing at the door of their tents with their families, and from verses 30-32 we see the effects of sin on others, “Now it came to pass, as he finished speaking all these words, that the ground split apart under them, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, with their households and all the men with Korah, with all their goods.” In Joshua 7 we see “Achan took of the accursed things; so the anger of the Lord burned against the children of Israel.” Also, 36 men lost their lives in the battle of Ai (v.5), and when Joshua learned about it, Joshua, and all of Israel with him, took Achan, his sons, his daughters, his oxen, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and all that he had (v.24), and all Israel stoned them and burned them (v.25b). David’s sin with Bathsheba cost their child his life (2 Samual 12:13b-14). These are just a few examples of how our sin affects others. What would happen if we would take the energy and passion we have for sin, and use it to draw closer to God? How many people do you think that could affect?
