Deuteronomy 6:5

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart”. If you notice in this verse, the words “you shall” are a command, not a suggestion, and there is no room for compromise. This is still a problem in today’s churches. We are told in scripture that friendship with the world is enmity with God, yet we continue to compromise because of the things we have access to, EDD or Electronic Distraction Devices (cell phones), the internet, and television are among the biggest problems. Another one is the lottery, which if we won would cause us to draw closer to the world and farther from God, for where your treasure is, your heart will be also. We want God to answer our prayers for things we want, to heal us when we’re sick, and help us out when troubles arise, but our love for Him through obedience, spending time in the word and prayer, are lagging. Joshua put it in simpler terms when he said “choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve… as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15). God made everything for Himself and gave us the gift of salvation through His Son. The only thing you can give Him that He doesn’t have is your whole heart. Won’t you start loving Him with your whole heart today?
